Every business needs a system to help run day-to-day operations. Managing General Agencies (MGAs) in the insurance industry often select a platform in the software category of Agency Management Systems (AMS). An AMS provides a robust suite of tools to help insurers manage work functions and processes all up and down the policy lifecycle and throughout the enterprise.

The transportation industry experienced a rough 2020. It got hit harder than many other sectors of the economy, as the pandemic caused problems up and down the supply chain. Going into 2021, according to a recent survey, the top concerns for motor carriers are driver compliance, driver shortages and driver retention.

In an unfortunate bit of irony for businesses, the very apps that are intended to help smoothly run the business and drive workplace efficiency actually may be making their staffers less productive.

This scenario plays out in a situation that's been dubbed "app overload." It's been called the silent productivity killer, due to its counterintuitive nature.

In just a few months, the COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the world, basic human interactions and how companies do business. Being in risk management and mitigation guaranteed the insurance industry would not be an exception. The global crisis forced insurers to react quickly and comprehensively.

Many companies understand the importance, or at least the utility, of cloud platforms and have migrated a great deal of their systems and applications there. Some have digitized processes as a way to save time and money and help move staff to more productive tasks. In these cases, employees are comfortable working and accessing information on the cloud.

"That's really helped them minimize the loss of productivity or efficiency that companies with only on-premise systems likely experienced when, suddenly, their workforce was compelled to work remote," says Sudhir Achar, CEO of EOX Vantage.

Organizations don't always have complete control over their data. Perhaps, a third party hosts it, the data isn't in the right format for those who need it, or employees are spending time manually inputting data or moving it from one system to another. 

However, data that isn't controllable, accessible or shareable is pretty much worthless. It can't be used to improve business decisions.
